Persia's Foundation Persia was built in an Assyrian model, but their administrative system was far more advanced and efficient. Persia was divided into 20 provinces ruled by satraps (governor). The satraps were personally chosen by the king, and the satraps were covertly inspected by the inspectors all throughout the empire. There was an enormous road built, called the Royal Road, between Sardis and Susa 1600 miles long. There was a station built every 40 miles. For messages that were extremely urgent for the royals and nobles, they would have messengers that would treat the message like a baton in a relay race.
Persia was the first empire to attempt to govern several religions at a time, all with equal rights. The rulers all lived under the religion which was founded by a man called Zoroaster. The religion was not thoroughly known until Darius adopted it. |
